Getting a good night’s sleep is incredibly important here in Australia and you would be surprised at the number of people who put barriers in the way of getting the best night’s sleep ever. They drink things and they eat things that will keep them up for most of the night and even though it is tempting to have one last snack before you put your head down for the night, it could be the one thing that deprives you of your sleep and damages your physical and mental health.
You have already bought your top quality and affordable mattress toppers for the ultimate in comfort and yet the following are just some of the things that people shouldn’t eat and drink before they go to bed at night all across Australia.
-
- Late-night cup of coffee – Unless it is decaffeinated then you need to stay away from something like this. It is incredibly tempting to brew yourself a cup of coffee just before bedtime maybe to warm up your insides but this will really affect your sleep later on. Clearly, it will contain caffeine and caffeine is designed to keep you alert and not to allow you to fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow.
- Junk food & fast food – This is a habit that we get ourselves into particularly on the weekends and it is very tempting to reward yourself for a hard week’s work by treating yourself to some late-night junk food from the popular vendor’s. This food is high in fat, salt and sugar and so it is going to cause a lot of havoc within your digestive system.
- A quick glass of beer – Contrary to what you might have heard, a glass of beer just before bedtime cannot help you to fall asleep. If anything, it will keep you up much longer because your body will have to metabolise it and converted into your pee and so you’re going to be up all night visiting the toilet.
- That last cup of tea – It is true that we are primarily a nation of tea drinkers and on a particularly cold night, you might be tempted to brew yourself a cup of tea just before bedtime. Tea is a natural diuretic and so it’s going to make you want to pee well into the night. Maybe opt for a warm cup of milk which is conducive to making you sleepy and allowing you to get those 40 winks that you so rightly deserve.
These are just some of the things that you shouldn’t be eating and drinking just before bedtime and another piece of advice would be to stay away from your smartphone and your laptop at least a couple of hours before bedtime. These give out blue light which messes with your body’s circadian rhythm and so you’re going to find it incredibly hard to get to sleep on any evening when using these devices.
